SCOTT'S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WISH LIST: What Makes the List This Year?
Hello! WHEW, we made it to Christmas! Here's a wish for you and yours to have a terrific holiday followed by a Happy New Year, with some much deserved down time in-between. I see flurries outside the window as I type this on the 18th, maybe we'll get that white Christmas after all.
There's always a few people who plan to do some yearbook work over the break, no problem. I'll be checking email and messages every day so don't be shy, let me know if you have questions or need assistance.
In my video offering this week in the left column I'm repeating a video from this time last year. It's a cool and thought provoking nine minute video on why your yearbook effort is so important, some great stories from several Jostens folks around the country. Check it out...
How about some wishes for our new year 2012...
This is my annual tradition, taking the two weeks over the holiday break to share some wishes of mine for the coming year. No, they're not all about yearbook. How many do you share?
A RESTFUL CHRISTMAS WITH FAMILY: I've had another busy December and I'm looking forward to some rest and at least a little laziness and sleep, a chance to recharge the batteries and not just those in Christmas gifts!
MORE PEACE ON EARTH: Our troops have left Iraq but still have plenty to do in Afghanistan. Here's hoping the bad guys have truly left the good people of Iraq and violence doesn't flare up there again. But let's not forget our brave military personnel in Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world, especially those who hail from your school and our neighborhood.
A PENN STATE WIN IN THE TICKET CITY BOWL JANUARY 2: This has been a fall like none other. I'm still a proud Nittany Lion fan but THIS bowl game holds plenty of importance for the future of the program. These current players had nothing to do with the scandal surrounding PSU and so I wish them the best under incredibly difficult circumstances. Go Lions!
PLENTY OF FACIAL RECOGNITION: For those Jostens schools using YearTech Online to create their book and who have sent in their portrait CD, you've already noticed the cool new facial recognition feature. At one school recently the new tool was quickly matching up faces and names, making tagging images with names a breeze. It was almost like a video game! Let's get the full use of this feature to make your Coverage Report and Index easier and more thorough than ever.
GETTING EVERYONE TO REPLAYIT: If you haven't already let's crank up your exclusive Jostens ReplayIt website, your yearbook's digital companion to not only get fresh images from others throughout your school but display them for all to see and preserve those memories online for many years to come.
SELL MORE YEARBOOKS: They're out there - people who want to buy your yearbook but still haven't gotten your message or your sales information. January is a big month for every school's sales effort. Let's work together to not only make a great yearbook but get your message out to EVERYONE right after the holidays. Check out my promotion ideas and online videos here on the website.
SELL MORE YEARBOOK ADS: And THESE are out there as well. With business ads I've noticed an uptick in sales this fall compared to last year. The economy in our neighborhood still isn't cooking but it isn't cold either. I've heard some great success stories over the last few weeks so don't automatically assume ads won't sell, they WILL. Let's go out and get them to give your effort some added revenue. Need some help? Just let me know.
BETTER SCHOOL JOURNALISM: I began my personal Student Journalism Project this year and have already had some success, helping one high school start an online newspaper and one junior high school to improve their morning TV broadcast. It's been a lot of fun for me and now I'm hoping to expand my mentoring into other schools this winter and spring. A big wish for the future is to help create a renewed appreciation for journalism in schools and the educational value that brings.
A TABLET COMPUTER: OK, this is a selfish one. My wife has an iPad and I'm jealous, borrowing it whenever possible to more easily read books and information over my iPhone which is a little small for my aging eyes. I've envisioned ways to use a tablet on my school visits. Santa, you reading this??
In the meantime, I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2012. See you next year!!
