FUNDRAISING - RUN YOUR OWN SPORTS TOURNAMENT!!

Many Thanks to my friend Renee Gunnett, former adviser at Central High in Martinsburg, Blair County for a novel fundraising idea: run your own school sports tournament!

In 2004 at Central, a student organization netted over $3,000 running a student volleyball tournament during their lunch/activity period. Last year the yearbook staff organized a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Teams of five, three boys and two girls, paid $10 each to compete in double elimination 15-minute games, broken down by age groups and homerooms, with prizes for the winners. Special rules insure that no team is stacked and everyone has a chance to play. "Fans" are asked to pay $1 to attend each game.
